Chinje Wins Poetry Out Loud Contest

Paul VI’s Poetry Out Loud contest was held Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. First place was awarded to Sonya Chinje ’16, second place to Abigail Rozmajzl ’16 and third place to Sarah Giuseppe ’15. Each of the 12 contestants memorized and recited two multi-stanza poems. Chinje will move on the regional competition in February at the Signature Theater in Arlington. From there, the top two go on to the state competition in Richmond in March. From there, one winner goes on to Nationals.

Other student competitors included Maggie Norman, Nat Smith, Kelsey Loesch, Vanessa Bliss, Caroline Dragone, Joey Arzeno, Andrew Conley, Isabella Whitfield and Maddie Whitfield.
This national contest sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts and is hosted by Librarian Mary Jane Cochrane. The contestants were judged by a rigorous standard set by the national contest: http://www.poetryoutloud.org/.
